In The News: As It Turns Out, China’s Been Hacking US Phone Networks

--

China has been secretly hacking the United States’ phone networks for years without anyone being the wiser. Over the last two years, state-sponsored hackers working for the Chinese government have consistently focused on telecommunication technology, ranging from standard home routers to massive national telecom networks.

A recent report states that there’s widespread hacking in the US, thanks to research from the NSA, FBI, and the CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency), with no signs of slowing down. Chinese financed cybercriminals, beginning in 2020, have been working on exploiting known software loopholes to incorporate these compromised devices into their systems.

What’s truly scary (and quite clever) is these individuals could harness free, publicly available tools to search for weak points in various networks, and from there, they could plan their attack. Afterward, they would seek access through online services, access login details from different systems, and then quietly breach routers to retrieve as much data as possible.
